I am Fr. Bob Pelton, c.s.c. of the University of Notre Dame. I appreciated your July 18 statement about our recently deceased friend, Gary MacEoin. I have just returned from a two week church mission in Cuba. Upon hearing about Gary's death I celebrated Mass for him. I have known Gary since the time of Vatican II, and at the major Latin American Church meetings since that time. I was on the list of recipients of the message of his death from his son, who invited a brief testimony about his father for an NCR web page. Following is my tribute:

Gary MacEoin was completely committed to the implementation of Vatican II. In this effort he exhibited a real tenaciousness. May we his friends carry this mission with a similar focus and intensity.
